Ensuring that schools uphold voter education
Many states in the United States have passed legislation to bring voter education to the classroom, ranging from voter registration materials to civic engagement classes in schools, however, many schools do not adhere to these unenforced laws.
Read your state's legislation, fill out the template, and email your school or district administration, or college!
Dear [district/school board/college],

It is imperative that today’s youth are educated on their right and duty as American citizens to vote, and schools should enable students to exercise this right. We believe that [district/school board/college]'s lack of initiative to the student voter registration process has gone on too long. According to law ______, [district/school board/college] should be ____, but we are yet to receive direct action towards ensuring a sustainable form of voter registration within schools. All students should have the opportunity to engage civically; we’re asking you to give us that right.
CURRENTLY,
-
Students don’t have access to voter registration material
-
Students are not receiving civic engagement education
-
There’s no method of transportation for students to access polling locations
-
Students aren’t given adequate time to vote

We demand [district/school board/college] adhere to the law, and provide students with _____.
WE NEED,
-
Voter registration forms to be provided twice a year to ALL students
-
Voter registration deadline reminders & election reminders
-
Designated times for registered students to vote in ALL elections
-
Information about registering to be an election poll worker
-
Provide students with transportation to and from election polling locations
-
Integrate civic engagement education into school curriculum & email blasts

Signed, concerned students of [district/school board/college]:
Join young people across America and in your own community in a massive way! Help register and engage young voters, spread critical information, defend voting rights, and take action on the issues that impact young lives. Millennials and Gen Z’s comprise nearly 40% of America’s eligible voters, yet turnout is more than 30% below older people. This is why we need YOUR help to ensure young people’s voices are heard on the local, state, and national levels. If you believe that young people deserve to be included in our democracy, join us. If you want to help break young voter turnout records, join us. Become a voter registration ambassador, become a social media ambassador, or host a virtual party to register young people in your community! By mobilizing and joining together, we are building a future that we can be proud of. #YouthToThePolls
